  • The bottom number of a fraction says how many equal parts the whole was cut into, and the top number says how many of them you have. This pizza was cut into 8 equal eighths, and 8 are still there, so the fraction is 8/8.
  • The slices have to be equal for the fraction to mean anything. A pizza cut into 8 equal pieces gives each piece 360° ÷ 8 = 45° of the turn around the middle, and the 8 slices shown take up 360°.
  • 8/8 and 0/8 together make the whole pizza: 8/8 + 0/8 = 8/8 = 1.
  • When the top and bottom numbers are the same the fraction equals 1, however many slices the pizza was cut into: 8/8 = 1, just as 2/2 and 8/8 do.
