Plan a fair survey

A reliable survey needs a clear question, a suitable group of people and a consistent way to record responses.

7.Choose the best survey question for collecting one clear response from each student.

8.The team asks only students waiting at the football field which activity they prefer. Is this likely to be a fair sample of all students? Explain why or why not.

9.Suppose a different survey allowed students to choose more than one activity, so its counts add to 24 even though 20 students answered. What instruction would make each response represent one favourite?

10.The team wants to collect data about how long students spend reading at home each evening. Give one suitable unit and one reason the team should use the same unit for everyone.

11.A second group of 10 students was surveyed, and 4 chose art. Across both groups, 9 students chose art out of 30. What percentage of all surveyed students chose art?

12.The council will run two activities. Based on the table, recommend which two to offer. Give one reason and mention one limitation of using this survey to make the decision.
