A Morning at the Gallery Last Thursday, Tui, Mere and Ari visited the city art gallery with their aunt. They arrived just after opening time. In the bright entrance, a guide welcomed them and handed each child a gallery map. First, they looked at paintings of the New Zealand coast. Tui spotted a tiny boat in one picture. Next, they entered a room filled with sculptures. Mere walked slowly around a tall metal sculpture while Ari sketched its unusual shape in his notebook. Then the guide showed them how an artist had made a print using leaves and ink. The children each made a small print to take home. Before leaving, they sat on a bench and compared their favourite artworks. Ari chose the sculpture, Mere liked the leaf print, and Tui picked the painting with the tiny boat.
