📚 Read and Understand

Stanley Yelnats was sent to Camp Green Lake, a place for boys who had got into trouble. Stanley soon discovered that there was no green lake there. The ground was dry, cracked and covered with dust.

Every boy had to dig one large hole each day. The Warden said that digging would build character. Stanley wondered if that was the real reason. The holes were five feet deep and five feet wide, and the boys had to report anything interesting that they found.

Stanley told the boys that he had been arrested after a pair of famous baseball player's sneakers fell from the sky and landed on him. The boys laughed because they did not believe his story. They thought Stanley had stolen the sneakers. Stanley felt lonely, but he tried to do his work.
