📋 Part 1: Plan your survey

WALT (We Are Learning To): Collect and organise class data through a survey, then apply basic statistical methods to summarise and display the findings.

Success criteria: I can: 1) pose a clear survey question; 2) collect data accurately; 3) record data using a tally or counts; 4) draw a labelled bar graph; 5) describe the most common response.

5. Conduct your survey with classmates. Record your raw data as a tally chart below (use tally marks and totals).

6. Draw a labelled bar graph of your results. Use the box below for your sketch. Label the horizontal axis (categories) and vertical axis (number of students). Use centimetres for bar widths.

Support & extension

Differentiation strategies: Use sentence starters (e.g., "The most common is..."), provide a prepared tally template, or work with a buddy for data collection. Teacher/adult may scribe answers if needed.

Extension activities: Calculate the median or range if you collected numerical data (e.g., ages, number of siblings). Compare your group's results with another group's results and explain any differences.
