Time-Travel Story Planner

Choose a time, plan a story set at school, then write one entertaining paragraph. Use time words such as first, next, suddenly and finally. Your character should take action and show feelings.

Build your story

Jot down ideas. There is more than one way to make a story.

1.Which of these time periods comes first?

The 1960s
The 1970s
The 1980s
The 1990s
The 2000s

2.Who is the main character? Give their name and one thing about them.

3.Describe the school your character visits. What might it look, sound or feel like?

4.What surprising problem happens at the school?

5.What does your character do to tackle the problem?

6.How is the problem solved, and how does the story finish?

7.Add two sensory details your character could notice. Think about what they see, hear, smell, touch or taste.

Draw a character, place or moment that could help you plan your story.

Write your story

Write one paragraph with a beginning, middle and ending. Include what your character does and feels, and use time words to show what happens next.

8.Write an entertaining time-travel story about your character at a school in another time. Include the problem, the character’s actions and feelings, how things turn out, and at least two time words.

Check and improve

Reread your paragraph. Tick each check when you have done it: I included a character, school, problem and solution; I wrote a beginning, middle and ending; I showed actions and feelings; I used time words; I added sensory details; I reread my work.
