How do weighted grades work?
Weighted grades multiply each category average by its weight percentage. For example, if tests are 50% and you have 90%, it contributes 45 points to your final grade.
Can I use different grading scales?
Yes! You can customize the letter grade cutoffs (A, B, C, etc.) to match your school's grading policy.
How is each category average worked out?
By total points, not by averaging the percentages. The calculator adds up every score in the category and divides by the total points available, so a 50-point test counts for more than a 10-point quiz. That matches how most gradebooks handle a category of mixed-size assignments.
What happens if I have not entered scores for every category yet?
The calculator uses only the categories that actually have assignments in them, and rescales their weights to add up to 100%. So if you have entered tests but not projects yet, you see the grade as it stands on tests alone rather than a mark dragged down by empty categories. Mid-term, that is usually the number you want.
What if my category weights do not add up to 100%?
The weight summary flags the total in amber until it reaches 100%, so you can spot a missing or mistyped category at a glance. The final grade is still calculated — the weights are treated as relative to each other — but it is worth fixing the total so the figure matches your school's policy.
Do I need an account to use the grading calculator?
