Objective

Students will understand the importance of maintaining healthy school and community environments and identify actions they can take to contribute.

Materials Needed

• Whiteboard and markers
• Printed handouts with scenarios
• Chart paper and markers
• A selection of recyclable and non-recyclable items
• A collection of recyclable containers

Timeframe: 45 Minutes

Introduction (10 minutes)

1. Greeting and Attendance (2 minutes)

   • Take attendance while greeting each student.

2. Engage Students with a Question (3 minutes)

   • Ask, "What do you think makes a school or community environment healthy?" Allow students to share a few answers.

3. Introduction to the Topic (5 minutes)

   • Explain the importance of clean environments and how they affect health: “A healthy environment minimizes the risk of illnesses, improves mental health, and promotes overall well-being.”

Main Activity (25 minutes)

Group Discussion and Scenario Analysis (15 minutes)

1. Divide the Class (2 minutes)

   • Split the class into groups of 5 students each.

2. Handout Distribution (2 minutes)

   • Provide each group with a scenario involving school and community health issues (littering, poor recycling habits, graffiti, etc.).

3. Discussion and Resolution (11 minutes)

   • Each group discusses their scenario and comes up with ways to solve the problem.
   • Groups will write their solutions on chart paper.

4. Group Presentations (10 minutes)

   • Each group presents their scenario and solutions to the class.
   • Allow brief Q&A after each presentation.

Hands-On Activity (7 minutes)

Recycling Relay Race

1. Set Up (2 minutes)

   • Place bins labeled "Recyclable" and "Non-Recyclable" at one end of the classroom and a mixed pile of items at the other end.

2. Conduct the Relay (5 minutes)

   • Students, in their groups, take turns racing to correctly sort items into the bins. This activity reinforces the concept of recycling and proper waste disposal.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

1. Review Key Points (3 minutes)

   • Summarize the importance of keeping environments clean.
   • Reinforce how these actions contribute to overall health.

2. Homework Assignment (2 minutes)

   • Ask students to note one thing they can do at home to promote a healthy environment. They will share their notes in the next class.
