Aso at Pusa

Objective

Students will read and understand a selected short story (Maikling Kwento) about "Aso at Pusa." They will identify and explain the literary approach (Dulog) used, and create a mini-lesson plan to teach this story, including a method and assessment component.

Procedures

Introduction (Duration: 5 minutes)

1. Greetings and Attendance (1 minute)

   • Welcome the students and take attendance.

2. Hook (4 minutes)

   • Display an image of a dog and a cat on the whiteboard.
   • Ask students: "What do you think when you see dogs and cats together?"
   • Briefly introduce the story of "Aso at Pusa," explaining it's a story from Filipino literature.

Activity 1: Reading and Understanding (Duration: 10 minutes)

1. Read Aloud (4 minutes)

   • Teacher reads the first paragraph of the "Aso at Pusa" story aloud in both Filipino and English to ensure comprehension.
   • Select student volunteers to continue reading subsequent paragraphs.

2. Silent Reading (3 minutes)

   • Students silently read the rest of the story individually.

3. Discussion (3 minutes)

2. Group Work (4 minutes)

   • Divide students into small groups (4-5 students per group).
   • Each group selects a literary approach they believe fits the story and explains their choice on chart paper.

Activity 3: Mini-Lesson Plan Development (Duration: 8 minutes)

1. Methodology Planning (4 minutes)

   • Ask each group to outline a mini-lesson plan focusing on how they would teach "Aso at Pusa" using their chosen approach.
   • They should include an introduction, activity, and assessment in their plan.

2. Presentation Preparation (4 minutes)

   • Groups prepare a 2-minute presentation to explain their plan and chosen literary approach to the class.
