Lesson Procedures

1. Introduction & Engagement (10 minutes)

Objective: Activate prior knowledge and introduce adjectives in context.

• Begin with a brief storytelling prompt: “Imagine you are describing your school to someone who has never seen it.” Write a simple sentence on the board:
  “The school is big.”
• Ask students to brainstorm words that make “big” more interesting. Write adjectives like huge, enormous, sprawling, colorful on the board.
• Define “adjective” as a word that describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. Use examples from the brainstorming.
• Quick think-pair-share: Students pair up and list three adjectives that describe their favorite animal or food, then share with the class.

2. Direct Instruction – Types of Adjectives (15 minutes)

Objective: Identify and classify adjectives.

• Briefly explain four types of adjectives with examples:
  • Descriptive: Blue, tall, aromatic
  • Quantitative: Some, many, few
  • Demonstrative: This, that, those
  • Possessive: My, your, their
• Using the “Adjective.pdf” reference for precise examples and definitions, display a chart on the board grouping adjectives by type.
• Conduct a short interactive activity: Read sentences aloud and ask students to identify and write the adjective type on their notebooks or mini whiteboards. For instance:

3. Guided Practice: Adjective Application Game (15 minutes)

• Activity: “Adjective Bingo”
