Lesson structure (45 minutes)

  1. 0–5 min · Hook and retrieval. Display an image sequence showing a person, a plant, and a microscopic cell using the opening image sequence. Ask, “What do these examples have in common?” Students write one claim and one question, then briefly share with a partner. Teacher connects responses to the previous lesson’s learning about cells as structures found in living things.

  2. 5–12 min · Introduce cell theory. Use the cell theory teaching slides to introduce the three components: all living things are made of cells; cells are the basic unit of life; and all cells come from pre-existing cells.
