Lesson structure (30 minutes)

  2. 4–9 min · Teach the key idea. Teacher uses the multicellular organisms teaching slides to explain that multicellular organisms contain many cells, and that cells may become specialized for particular jobs. Show simple diagrams and introduce examples: root and leaf cells in plants, muscle and nerve cells in animals, and threadlike hyphae in fungi. Students record one definition and one example on the multicellular organisms investigation sheet.

  3. 9–16 min · Match cells to jobs. Teacher places students in groups of four and distributes the plant-part sorting cards alongside the worksheet. Explain that students should use the plant images and function descriptions to discuss how different plant parts support the whole organism.   6. 27–30 min · Exit check. Teacher displays the final review and exit prompt. Students complete the final box on the multicellular organisms investigation sheet: “Explain how specialized cells help a multicellular organism live. Name one organism and include one piece of evidence.” Collect worksheets as students leave.
