Lesson Overview

Students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of information technology (IT) through interactive, hands-on activities and biblical reflections. This lesson integrates community values and ethical considerations drawn from biblical principles, fostering not only technical understanding but also character development consistent with the IB Learner Profile attributes of being principled and reflective.

Learning Objectives

Integrate biblical reflection: Read and discuss Colossians 3:23 about doing work heartily and relating it to ethical IT use—honest information sharing and stewardship of technology resources.	Dual-modality input: visual diagrams, oral explanations, and group reading of Bible verses.
25–35 min	Elaborate: Group Activity - Build Your Own IT System	In pairs, students use word cards (e.g., hardware parts, software types) to assemble a basic IT system on a magnetic board or paper. Discuss how each part helps communication and problem-solving. Connect to a biblical principle of teamwork from Ecclesiastes 4:9-10.	Mixed-ability pairing, verbal and hands-on learning, with clear instructions and checklists.
35–43 min	Evaluate: Reflective Discussion & Exit Ticket	Engage students in a brief conversation about the importance of ethics in technology (honesty, respect for others’ information). Then, each student writes a short sentence to answer: “How can I use technology responsibly according to biblical values?”	Provide sentence starters and key vocabulary for writing support. Oral sharing option for those who need it.
43–45 min	Closure & Prayer	Summarize key points of the lesson. Close with a short, inclusive prayer asking for wisdom and guidance to use technology responsibly and with kindness.	Create a calm closing environment; invite all to participate according to comfort level.

Assessment

Formative: Observation during brainstorming and group activity; participation in discussions.
Summative: Exit ticket reflecting understanding of ethical IT use grounded in biblical values.
Success Criteria: Students explain what IT is, identify its components, and connect responsible use with biblical teachings.
