Lesson Structure

2. Introduction (5 minutes)

Activity: Introduction to Transport and Counting

• Show students the toy cars, trucks, buses, and airplanes.
• Ask students to name each type of transport.
• Explain that today they will learn to count using these types of transport.

3. Main Activity (20 minutes)

a. Counting with Toy Transport (10 minutes)

• Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students.
• Give each group a set of 10 toy transport items.
• Distribute number flashcards (1-10) to each group.
• Have the groups count out loud and match the correct number of toys to each flashcard.
• Rotate groups every 2 minutes to ensure each child handles different toys.

b. Interactive Whiteboard Activity (5 minutes)

• Gather students back together.
• Use a large paper or chalkboard.
• Draw a simple road with spaces for numbers 1 to 10.
• Have students come up and place either a toy or a drawn picture of a transport type in the correctly numbered space.

c. Worksheet Activity (5 minutes)

• Hand out printable worksheets to each student.
• These worksheets should have different transportation images and corresponding empty boxes.
• Instruct students to count and place the correct number in each box.

4. Group Activity (10 minutes)

Activity: Transport Sorting Game

• Scatter the toy transport items across the room.
• Divide the class into 3-4 groups.
• Assign each group a specific type of transport to find and count (e.g., Group 1 searches for cars, Group 2 searches for buses, etc.)
• Encourage the groups to work together to count their items and report back their totals.
