Objective

By the end of this 5-minute session, the student will be able to identify and correctly use basic parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives) and construct a simple, coherent sentence incorporating each part of speech.

Lesson Breakdown

1. Warm-Up (1 minute)

Quick Spoken Drill:
Ask the student to name one noun, one verb, and one adjective aloud. Prompt gently to scaffold thought if needed.
For example:

• Noun: dog
• Verb: run
• Adjective: happy

Purpose: Activates prior knowledge of parts of speech.

2. Mini-Instruction (1.5 minutes)

Teacher Says:

• Define each part of speech with a clear, relatable sentence:
  • Noun: A person, place, thing, or idea.
  • Verb: A word showing action or state of being.
  • Adjective: A word that describes a noun.

Use simple, concrete examples:

• Noun: cat
• Verb: jumps
• Adjective: small

Write these on the whiteboard or paper.

3. Guided Practice (1.5 minutes)

Task: Construct a simple sentence together using the noun, verb, and adjective.

Encourage the student to choose their own words and create a sentence aloud. Write down their sentence and identify the noun, verb, and adjective in it.

4. Quick Application (1 minute)

Student Writes:
Ask the student to write one original sentence on paper using at least one noun, one verb, and one adjective.

After writing, the student states aloud the parts of speech in their sentence.
