Learning Objectives:

By the end of this quick lesson, students will be able to:

• Describe the main causes and effects of the Korean and Vietnam Wars in a simple way.
• Identify at least one similarity and one difference between these two conflicts.

Materials:

• Two printed or projected images (one representing the Korean War, one representing the Vietnam War)
• Short, simple sentences summarizing each war (displayed or visible to students)
• Timer or stopwatch

Lesson Structure (2 Minutes Total):

1. Introduction (30 seconds)

• Show the two images side by side.
• Say: “Today, we’re going to learn about two important wars that happened a long time ago: the Korean War and the Vietnam War.”
• Point to each image as you say the names.

2. Quick Facts (45 seconds)

• Read aloud two very brief facts about each war (keep sentences simple):
  • Korean War: “The Korean War started in 1950. It was between North Korea and South Korea.”
  • Vietnam War: “The Vietnam War started in 1955. It was between North Vietnam and South Vietnam.”
• Highlight a common theme: “Both wars were about countries wanting to be free or to be ruled in different ways.”

3. Compare & Contrast (30 seconds)

• Ask, “Can you tell me one way these wars were the same? Maybe both happened in Asia?”
• Pause for a few seconds to let students respond or think.
• Then say, “And one way they were different? For example, the Korean War was shorter, the Vietnam War lasted longer.”

4. Wrap-Up & Vocabulary (15 seconds)

• Quickly say and have students repeat three keywords: war, freedom, country.
• Emphasize that learning about these wars helps us understand history and peace.
