Lesson Structure

Introduction (10 minutes)

1. Warm-Up Activity: "Two Truths and a Lie"
   • Have each student think of two true personal experiences and one fabricated story.
   • Each student shares their three statements, and classmates must guess which one is the lie.
   • This activity introduces the theme of storytelling and engages students in speaking and listening.

Listening and Discussion (25 minutes)

2. Listening Activity: "A Day in the Life"

   • Play an audio clip from Oxford Discover Futures 2 featuring a short story about a day in the life of a middle school student.
   • Pause at strategic points to ask comprehension questions:
     • What did the character do after breakfast?
     • How did the character feel when they missed the bus?
     • What was the surprise at the end of the story?

3. Group Discussion: "Chain of Events"

   • Divide students into three groups. Each group discusses one part of the story and collectively creates a sequence of events.
   • Groups present their part to the class, building a chain of events for the entire story.

Vocabulary Expansion (15 minutes)

4. Vocabulary Activity: "Word Match Challenge"
   • Hand out printed vocabulary cards derived from the audio clip.
   • Students work in pairs to match words with their definitions.
   • Encourage the use of these words in constructing sentences related to the story listened to earlier.

Creative Speaking Activity (25 minutes)

5. Pair Work: Storytelling Dice

   • Provide each pair with a set of storytelling dice. Each die has images representing different characters, settings, or actions.
   • Students roll the dice and collaboratively construct a short story using the images.
   • Encourage the use of linking words (first, next, then, finally) and vocabulary from the lesson.

6. Present and Share

   • Pairs present their stories to the class.
   • While one pair presents, the others listen actively and take notes on their favorite part of the story and one question they have.

Conclusion (10 minutes)

7. Reflective Discussion: "Story Impressions"
   • Gather students in a circle.
   • Ask each student to share what they found most surprising or interesting in today's lesson.
   • Encourage students to reflect on how the activities help improve their understanding and use of English.

8. Creative Writing: My Mini Adventure
   • Students write a short paragraph about an imaginary adventure they would like to have, incorporating at least five vocabulary words from today’s lesson.
   • Ask students to be ready to share their adventure in the next class.
