Letter & Color Fun

Objective

By the end of this 10-minute session, the student will:

• Recognize and name at least 5 uppercase letters (A, B, C, D, E).
• Identify and name 3 basic colors (red, blue, yellow).
• Match letters to corresponding colored cars, strengthening letter-sound association and color recognition.

Materials Needed

• Printable worksheet featuring cars labeled with different uppercase letters (A-E) in various colors (red, blue, yellow).
• A set of small cut-out paper cars in matching colors for hands-on matching.
• Crayons or markers for coloring.

Lesson Breakdown (10 minutes)

1. Introduction (2 minutes)

• Greet the student and introduce the letter recognition activity.
• Show the worksheet with colorful cars labeled A-E. Say each letter clearly while pointing to the cars.
• Brief discussion: “Can you tell me which letters you know? What color is this car?”

2. Letter and Color Recognition Activity (5 minutes)

• Ask the student to point to a car and say its letter and color aloud (model if needed).
• Using cut-out cars, invite the student to match a colored paper car to the car on the worksheet that shows the same letter and color.
• Reinforce by asking: “Which car is the blue B? Can you find it and place your blue car there?”
• Celebrate each successful match to build confidence.

3. Coloring Connection (2 minutes)

• Ask the student to color any car on the worksheet with a crayon matching the car’s printed color (if uncolored), reinforcing color recognition.

4. Quick Review & Closing (1 minute)

• Review the letters and colors once more by rapidly pointing to cars and having the student name them.
• Praise effort and encourage the student to talk about their favorite color or letter from today’s activity.
• Suggest the student looks for those letters and colors around the house!

Assessment

• Informal observational assessment during matching: Is the student correctly identifying letters and colors?
• Can the student verbally name at least 3 colors and 5 letters during the review?
• Worksheet coloring shows appropriate color choices corresponding to the car colors.
