Lesson Structure (35 minutes)

1. Teacher’s Presentation (10 minutes)

💡 Introduction & Vocabulary – Direct Instruction

  • Greet students in Spanish: ¡Hola, clase! Hoy vamos a hablar sobre cómo viajas a la escuela.

  • Show flashcards with pictures of different modes of transport, saying each word clearly while students repeat.

    Vocabulary Focus:

    • Autobús (bus)
    • Coche (car)
    • Bicicleta (bicycle)
    • Tren (train)
    • A pie (on foot)
  • Model the question and answers:

    • ¿Cómo viajas a la escuela? (How do you travel to school?)
    • Viajo en autobús. (I travel by bus.)
    • Viajo en coche. (I travel by car.)
    • Voy a pie. (I walk.)

👂 Listening Drill: Call out different transport modes, and students repeat the words while matching with pictures.

2. Listening & Movement Activity (8 minutes)

👂 Simon Dice – Silent Action Listening Game

  • Instructions: Teacher calls out a mode of transport in Spanish, and students act it out silently (e.g., pretend to ride a bike, walk in place).
  • Example:
    • "Si viajas en autobús, siéntate como si estuvieras en un autobús." (If you travel by bus, sit as if you're on a bus.)
  • Continue with all modes of transport. This reinforces recognition without verbal responses.

3. Speaking Game – Travel to School Race (12 minutes)

🏁 Group Activity – Acting & Speaking Relay

  • Setup:
    • Divide students into groups of 4.
    • Each student selects a mode of transport.
  • How to Play:
    • The first student acts out a mode of transport while saying their sentence aloud (e.g., "Viajo en bicicleta." while pretending to pedal).
    • The next student must first ask the question: "¿Cómo viajas a la escuela?" before performing their own action with a response.
    • Continue in a relay-style format.

🔥 Challenge: Make it a speed game—teams must complete the full cycle as quickly and correctly as possible to "reach school."

Closure (5 minutes)

📸 Flashcard & Pronunciation Review

  • Revisit vocabulary flashcards, ensuring correct pronunciation from students.
  • Ask students one final time: ¿Cómo viajas a la escuela?
  • Celebrate participation with a classwide thumbs-up cheer!

Evaluation – Group Activity (4 students per team)

🎭 Mini Skits:

  • Each team creates a short dialogue where all group members ask and answer: ¿Cómo viajas a la escuela?
  • Groups perform for the class, ensuring they use both the question and correct responses in Spanish.
  • Teacher provides feedback and encouragement.

Differentiation & Support

For struggling students: Provide sentence frames or word prompts.
For advanced students: Ask them to explain why they take a specific mode of transport in Spanish.
For physical learners: Emphasize movement in responses and activities.

Reflection & Extension

  • Follow-up Writing Activity: Have students draw their mode of transport and write a sentence: Yo viajo en __.
  • Home Connection: Encourage students to ask family members: ¿Cómo viajas al trabajo?

📣 Teacher’s Takeaway:
This lesson is engaging, movement-based, and focused on real-world conversational Spanish—helping students build confidence in speaking! 🚀
