Testing Inventions

Overview

This 30-minute lesson engages one 3rd-grade student in testing a prototype invention they have previously designed. The student will gather data on the prototype’s effectiveness, analyze performance outcomes, and discuss potential improvements. The lesson aligns with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Science and incorporates critical thinking, communication, and data recording skills appropriate for the student’s grade level.

Objectives

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:

• Conduct a simple test on their invention prototype and collect relevant performance data.
• Analyze the results to determine the prototype’s effectiveness.
• Communicate findings clearly using descriptive language and basic data vocabulary.
