What Does Compare Mean?

Compare means to look for things that are THE SAME We use words like: same, both, alike, similar Example: Both cats and dogs have four legs Both apples and oranges are fruits

Contrast means to look for things that are DIFFERENT We use words like: different, but, however, unlike Example: Cats meow BUT dogs bark Example: Apples are red BUT bananas are yellow

Look at a cat and a dog What's the SAME? (Both have fur, both are pets, both have tails) What's DIFFERENT? (Cats meow, dogs bark; cats climb trees, dogs don't) Turn to your partner and share one more similarity and one difference!
