Description: Exploration of the nature of light, perception, materiality, and lighting vocabulary Key Topics: • Daylighting and shadows • Reflective light on materials • Light, health, and sustainable design Method: Lectures, research, built case studies, and a final lighting project

Textbook: Lighting Design Basics, 4th Edition (Karlen & Spangler) Communication: • Primary: Microsoft Teams • Email: Wade College email only • Response Time: Allow 24 hours • Quiet Hours: Avoid messaging before 8am or after 6pm

Attendance Policy

Expectation: Attendance is critical for success; recorded at the start of class Absences: • Notify professor immediately if missing class • Penalty: 5 points subtracted per absence • Tardies: 2 tardies = 1 absence • Breaks: Breaks >5 mins count as tardy/absent
