Use the match situation to analyse how shot placement can create space, disrupt an opponent’s recovery and reduce your own risk. For written responses, justify choices using relevant tactical or technical reasoning.

Match situation

You are playing singles against an opponent who recovers quickly to the centre but is slower moving backwards on their backhand side. They stand close to the short service line when you are under pressure. You have just lifted the shuttle high and deep to their backhand rear corner. In the next rally, you want to move them, limit their attacking options and be ready for their reply.

Assume your opponent reaches the deep backhand corner late and returns a high, short lift towards your mid-court. You are balanced behind the shuttle and have time to choose a controlled attacking shot.
