My Life Story Writing
A life story tells about real things that have happened to you. You can choose a happy, funny, exciting or important memory. You only need to share what feels comfortable. Use the examples to help you plan your own story.
Plan your memory
Think of one real moment from your life. It could be a game, a trip, learning something new or a time with someone you care about.
1.Choose a memory you could write about. Which is a true life-story idea?
- The day I learned to ride my bike
- A dragon who lives on the moon
- A robot who can talk to trees
2.Write or say where your memory happened. Example: “It happened at the park.”
3.Who was with you in your memory? You can name a person or write “I was by myself.”
4.Put these parts of a life story in order. Write 1, 2 and 3: ___ What happened at the end? ___ What happened first? ___ What happened next?
5.Pick a feeling for your memory. Complete the sentence: “I felt because .” Example feelings: proud, excited, worried or happy.
Build your story
A clear story tells what happened in order. Add details so your reader can picture the moment.
6.Choose a word that helps show what happened next: “___, I had a turn.”
- Next
- Because
- Blue
7.Write one thing you saw, heard or did in your memory. Example: “I heard people clapping.”
8.True or false: A life story should be about something that really happened to you.
TrueFalse
9.Write a beginning for your life story. You could start with “One day…” or “I remember when…”
Draw one part of the real memory you chose. Add a detail that helps show where you were or what was happening.
10.Write one sentence about your drawing. Start with a capital letter and finish with a full stop.
11.Tick the details that help a reader understand your life story.
- What really happened
- How I felt
- Events in order
- A made-up ending
12.Write two or three sentences to tell your memory. Try to include what happened first, what happened next and how you felt.
