Jake couldn't believe his luck. He had been selected for the Canterbury Under-12 rugby camp at Lake Tekapo. For three days, he would train with the best young players in the region and sleep under the stars.

On the first morning, Coach Williams gathered the boys around the campfire. "Right, lads," he said, "today we'll work on your lineout throws, but first we need to set up camp properly." Jake volunteered to help pitch the tents while his teammate Sam organised the cooking gear.

After a hearty breakfast of bacon and eggs cooked on the camp stove, the real training began. The mountain air was crisp at 8°C, perfect for rugby. Jake's passing had improved dramatically by lunchtime, and he even managed to hook the ball cleanly in a practice scrum.

That evening, as they sat around the fire roasting marshmallows, Coach Williams told stories about famous All Blacks who had started their careers at camps just like this one. "Remember boys," he said, "champions are made through hard work, teamwork, and never giving up."

Jake fell asleep that night with a huge grin on his face, already excited about tomorrow's training session. He knew this camp would change his rugby forever.
