📰 Part 1: Understanding Articles
What is an Article?
Purpose: To inform or share news about a topic or event
Key Features of Articles:
Catchy titles that grab attention
Paragraphs with facts and information
Quotes from people involved
Written in present or past tense
Often includes the 5 W's (Who, What, When, Where, Why)
Example Article Extract:
"Local School Wins Environmental Award"
Greenfield Primary School received the prestigious Green Schools Award yesterday for their outstanding recycling programme. The school has reduced waste by 75% over the past year.
"We're absolutely thrilled," said Principal Sarah Johnson. "The students have worked incredibly hard to make this happen."
The award ceremony took place at the Auckland Town Hall, with over 200 schools competing nationwide.

What is a Biography?
Purpose: To tell the true story of a person's life
Key Features of Biographies:

Sir Edmund Hillary (1919-2008)
Edmund Hillary was born on 20th July 1919 in Auckland, New Zealand. He grew up on a farm in Tuakau with his parents and two siblings.
As a young man, Hillary developed a love for climbing and adventure. In 1953, he achieved worldwide fame when he became the first person, along with Tenzing Norgay, to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
After his climbing success, Hillary dedicated his life to helping the Sherpa people of Nepal. He built schools and hospitals in remote mountain villages.
