📚 Read: Vowel Principles

Vowels are the letters a, e, i, o and u. Sometimes y can act as a vowel too. Every syllable in a word has at least one vowel sound.

A short vowel has a quick sound, as in cat, bed, sit, hot and sun. A long vowel says its letter name, as in cake, these, time, home and cute. Vowels can work alone or join with other letters to make vowel sounds.
