Fraction Set: 2 of 4 Balloons

About this illustration

This image features four cartoon-style balloons arranged horizontally against a white background. The first balloon is solid red, and the third is solid blue, both with small white highlights to suggest shine. The second and fourth balloons are rendered as black outlines on a white fill, explicitly designed for student coloring or pattern activities. Each balloon has a simple black string attached. This versatile illustration is suitable for early years education to teach colors, patterns, or counting, and can be used on worksheets for coloring exercises, as decorative elements in slides, or for simple matching games.

What is 2/4 of a set?

2/4 is two quarters. This is a set of 4 balloons, and the fraction counts 2 of them. As a decimal 2/4 is 0.5, and as a percentage it is 50%.

  • Here the whole is a GROUP, not one shape: the denominator 4 is how many balloons there are altogether, and each single one of them is one quarter of the set. The numerator 2 is how many of them the fraction counts.
  • 2 and 4 both divide by 2, so 2/4 simplifies to 1/2 — 2 ÷ 2 = 1 and 4 ÷ 2 = 2.
  • To turn 2/4 into a decimal, divide the top by the bottom: 2 ÷ 4 = 0.5. Multiply that by 100 for the percentage, 50%.
  • The rest of the set is 2/4, because 2/4 and 2/4 add up to one whole set.
  • The same method works on any amount, not just 4 balloons: to find 2/4 of a number, divide it by 4 and then multiply by 2.
