How to start home education in Western Australia

Complete the application for registration as a home educator at the public school in your local intake area (even if the child is not enrolled there) within fourteen days of starting or withdrawing. The school forwards it to the regional office.

A home education moderator contacts you and visits within three months to see your program, resources and learning environment, and to discuss how you address the WA Curriculum learning areas.

Keep a record of learning across the eight learning areas with samples; the moderator evaluates progress against this at the annual visit.

Annual evaluation
The moderator visits each year to evaluate the program. Registration continues while evaluations are satisfactory; there is no renewal application in most cases.
