The ant life cycle
Ants develop through complete metamorphosis: egg, larva, pupa and adult. A queen lays eggs. The eggs hatch into larvae, which are fed and grow. A larva then becomes a pupa; inside this stage its body changes into an adult ant. In some ant species the pupa is inside a cocoon, while in others it is not. Adult ants in a colony may have different roles, such as queen, worker or male.
