Exploring Science Materials
Read and Learn
WALT: We Are Learning To identify materials and describe their properties.
Success criteria: I can name different materials, describe their properties, and explain why a material is suitable for a particular use.
Science Materials
Everything around us is made from one or more materials. Common materials include wood, metal, plastic, glass, paper, rubber and fabric.
Materials have different properties. A property is what a material is like. For example, metal can be strong and shiny. Glass is smooth and transparent, which means we can see through it. Rubber is flexible and waterproof. Fabric is soft and can absorb water.
People choose materials carefully for different jobs. A raincoat is made from waterproof material to keep us dry. A window is made from glass because it is transparent. A saucepan may be made from metal because metal is strong and can withstand heat.
