Speech Assessment Rubric

Use the rubric to assess a speech fairly and give feedback that is specific, kind and useful. Read the speech scenario and notes first. Then answer the questions.

Practice speech: Make our school day more active

Hugo gives a two-minute speech asking for a weekly lunchtime activity club. She opens with, “When was the last time you tried something new at lunchtime?” She explains that a club could offer options such as skipping, mini-games and dance. She gives one example: her friends enjoyed a skipping challenge last week. She links her ideas with “First”, “Another reason” and “Finally”. She ends by asking the audience to suggest activities for a trial week. Hugo speaks clearly at a steady pace, but her voice becomes quieter near the end. She looks up regularly, stands steadily and uses one natural gesture when describing the activities. She does not include statistics or other evidence.
