Author Purpose Sentence Stem Cards

This sheet contains nine rectangular cards in a 3x3 grid, each with a bold coloured header (e.g. PERSUADE, INFORM, ENTERTAIN), a simple icon, a sentence stem beginning 'The author wants…' and one or two blank lines for a short written response. Use the cards as a scaffold when teaching author purpose, modelling how to turn a purpose into a sentence and link it to a text. The cards are low-text, visually supported prompts ideal for guided practice, literacy centres or as takeaway prompts for independent writing.
