Topic Sentences Prompt Cards

This sheet contains multiple small cards (each with an icon, bold heading and a one-line question) that prompt students to consider focus, main idea, point, audience, reason, evidence, example, connection, comparison, problem/solution and similar paragraph components. Teachers can cut the cards apart and give them to individuals, pairs or small groups as scaffolds during planning, drafting or revision. The prompts are designed to make abstract writing choices concrete and to support students who struggle to start or structure a paragraph.
