Light and Seeing

Join Rory and Anya on an evening visit to the zoo. Read each clue carefully, then answer the questions. Never look directly at the Sun or a bright light.

The zoo after sunset

At dusk, Rory and Anya walk along a path. A lamp shines on a sign, and a keeper uses a torch to check a gate. The sign and gate do not make their own light. Light from the lamp and torch travels in straight lines, hits these objects and reflects into the children's eyes. That is how the children see them. In a closed, completely dark shelter, they could not see a toy until a light was switched on and its light reached the toy and their eyes.
