📖 Reading Passage

The Amazing World of Dolphins

Dolphins are some of the most intelligent animals on Earth. These marine mammals live in oceans all around the world and can be found in both warm and cool waters. Unlike fish, dolphins are warm-blooded and breathe air through lungs, not gills. They must come to the surface every 8-12 minutes to breathe through a blowhole on top of their heads.

Dolphins are incredibly social animals that live in groups called pods. A pod can have anywhere from 2 to 30 dolphins, and sometimes even more! They communicate with each other using clicks, whistles, and body language. Each dolphin has its own special whistle, almost like a name that other dolphins can recognize.

These amazing creatures are also known for their playful behavior. They love to jump out of the water, surf on waves, and play games with seaweed or other objects. Dolphins have been observed helping injured members of their pod and even rescuing humans who are in trouble at sea. Their brain size compared to their body size is second only to humans, which explains their remarkable problem-solving abilities.
