The butterflies use a combination of air currents, the sun's position, and magnetic fields to navigate their path. Scientists are still amazed by how these tiny insects can find their way to the exact same forests in Mexico that their great-great-grandparents visited the year before. The monarchs cluster together on oyamel fir trees, creating orange and black blankets that cover entire mountainsides.

Unfortunately, monarch populations have declined dramatically over the past twenty years due to habitat loss and climate change. Conservation efforts are now underway to protect these magnificent travelers and ensure future generations can witness this natural wonder.
