📖 Reading Passage

Kobe Bryant: A Basketball Legend

Kobe Bryant was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kobe spent part of his childhood in Italy when his father played professional basketball there. This experience helped him learn to speak Italian and gave him a different view of the world.

At age 17, Kobe made a bold decision to skip college and go straight to the NBA. He was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets but was quickly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he would spend his entire 20-year career. Kobe was known for his incredible work ethic and determination. He often arrived at practice hours before his teammates and stayed late to perfect his skills.

During his career, Kobe won five NBA championships with the Lakers and was selected to play in 18 All-Star games. He scored 81 points in a single game in 2006, which was the second-highest score in NBA history. Kobe also won two Olympic gold medals playing for Team USA. He retired in 2016 and sadly passed away in a helicopter crash in 2020, leaving behind a legacy that inspired millions of people around the world.
