The Gods of Ancient Rome

Long ago, the people of Ancient Rome believed in many gods and goddesses. These gods were very powerful and controlled different parts of life. Jupiter was the king of all the gods and ruled the sky and thunder. When storms came, Romans thought Jupiter was angry! Mars was the god of war and helped Roman soldiers in battle. Neptune ruled over all the oceans and seas with his special three-pointed spear called a trident.

The Romans built beautiful temples to honor their gods. They brought gifts like food, flowers, and coins to make the gods happy. Romans believed that if they pleased the gods, good things would happen to them. If they made the gods angry, bad luck might come their way. These beliefs were very important to how Romans lived their daily lives. They prayed to different gods depending on what help they needed.
