Tsunamis are giant ocean waves that can be over 100 feet tall! They usually happen when an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption moves the ocean floor. Scientists work hard to predict when these tectonic hazards might happen so they can warn people to stay safe. While we cannot stop these natural events, we can prepare for them by building stronger structures and having emergency plans ready.
