The Snowy-Day Surprise

Aaliyah woke to a quiet morning. Snow covered the sidewalk, and tiny flakes tapped her window. She pulled on her boots, coat, and red mittens. Her brother Camila was already waiting by the door with their blue sled. At the park, the hill looked smooth and white. Aaliyah and Camila took turns sledding. Their dog, Pepper, bounded beside them, leaving a trail of pawprints. After three trips down the hill, Aaliyah noticed a little bird near a bush. It was pecking at the snowy ground. “Maybe it is looking for seeds,” said Camila. He sprinkled a few seeds from the bag they had brought for the birds. The bird hopped closer. Aaliyah smiled. She had planned a fun day in the snow, but helping the bird made it even better.
