📖 Reading Passage: Renewable Resources

What are renewable resources?

Renewable resources are natural sources of energy that can be used over and over again. Unlike fossil fuels such as coal and oil, renewable resources will never run out.

Types of renewable energy:

Solar Energy: The sun provides endless energy. Solar panels capture sunlight and turn it into electricity. Many homes in sunny states like California and Arizona use solar panels on their roofs.

Wind Energy: Wind turbines look like giant pinwheels. When wind blows, the turbines spin and create electricity. Wind farms can be found in windy places like Texas and Iowa.

Water Energy: Moving water can create electricity too. Hydroelectric dams use flowing rivers to make power. The Hoover Dam in Nevada is a famous example.

Why are renewable resources important?

Renewable energy is clean and does not pollute our air. It helps fight climate change and keeps our planet healthy. As technology improves, renewable energy is becoming cheaper and more popular across the United States.
