You’re preparing a book report for the school radio station’s book-review segment. Read your draft aloud, then use each check to spot what is working and what you can improve. Be honest: “Revise” is a useful next step!
Check your report

4.If your book tells a story, does your report introduce an important character and describe a choice, challenge, or change? If it is nonfiction, does it explain the main subject instead? Choose Ready or Revise and name the evidence.
5.Does your report tell what you think or feel about the book and support that opinion with a reason or example? Choose Ready or Revise. Complete: “I think/feel ___ because ___.”
6.Read each sentence in your report aloud. Does every sentence express a complete thought? Choose Ready or Revise. Copy one sentence you checked.
7.Check the beginnings and endings of your sentences. Did you use capital letters at the start and correct end punctuation (period, question mark, or exclamation point)? Choose Ready or Revise. Name one mark you checked.
8.Imagine Nia is the school radio host and has 20 seconds to introduce your report. Write one spoiler-free sentence that would make a listener curious about the book.
9.Choose the best next step for a report that says, “The book was good. I liked it.”
- Add a specific reason or example that explains the opinion.
- Repeat the same two sentences in a new paragraph.
- Remove the opinion so the report has no response.
- Add an unrelated fact about the author.
