Read the dialogue with a partner, taking turns as Evie and Mei. Then answer the questions. For the speaking task, plan and record or perform your own short podcast conversation. If you are working alone, read both roles aloud.

On air: Should tablets be used in every lesson?

RUBY (host): Welcome to The Learning Mic! I’m Evie, and today I’m chatting with Mei about tablets in the classroom. Mei, what’s one way a tablet helps you learn? NOAH (guest): In science, we used a tablet to zoom in on photos of tiny insects. I could see details I’d never noticed before. It made me curious to find out more. RUBY: That sounds useful. But some people worry that tablets can distract students. What do you think? NOAH: They can be distracting if we use them without a clear purpose. During our lesson, our teacher gave us one task and closed the apps we didn’t need. That helped me stay focused. RUBY: Do you think tablets should replace books and handwriting? NOAH: No. I still like reading printed books, and handwriting helps me practise spelling and form letters. Tablets are another tool, not a replacement for everything. RUBY: So when should a class use them? NOAH: When they help us do something better—like zooming in on an image, recording our ideas or researching a question.
