About this illustration
A black and white horizontal number line diagram marked with major tick points '0', '0.5', and '1', and minor tick marks representing tenths between 0 and 1. This clear flat illustration teaches number sense, decimal representation, and the ordering of rational numbers. It is ideal for classroom worksheets, slides, or label exercises to help students understand decimal values and their placement on a number line using standard mathematical notation. There are no specific cultural or locale cues.
How to use a 0–1 number line
This is a blank number line from 0 to 1, marked in steps of 0.1. There are 11 tick marks and 10 equal gaps between them, and the gaps are the same size all the way along — that even spacing is what makes a number line work.

- Smallest step between ticks

- Each small gap as a fraction
- 1/10 of the way from 0 to 1
- A number line puts the numbers in order along a line with equal gaps between them, so the distance between two numbers is the difference between them. This one runs from 0 to 1 in steps of 0.1, which is 10 equal gaps and 11 tick marks.
- Counting on is the skill it is drawn for. Each small gap here is worth 0.1, so adding 0.3 means moving three gaps to the right, and subtracting means moving the same way left. The answer is the tick you land on, so the line gives the method and the check at the same time.
- The arrows at the ends are not decoration — they say the line keeps going in both directions. The numbers printed here are the part being looked at, not the whole of it.
- Between 0 and 1 the ticks are tenths, so each one is 0.1. The middle tick is 0.5, which is the same amount as 1/2 and as 5/10 — the same point on the line with three names.
