6 × 2 = 12, 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 6 = 36, 6 × 8 = 48. When you multiply 6 by an even number, the answer ends in that very digit — and the tens digit is half of it. Children find this genuinely delightful.
6 × 7 = (5 × 7) + 7 = 35 + 7 = 42. Since the 5s are usually rock-solid, 'times five, then add one more group' rebuilds any 6s fact quickly.
6 = 2 × 3, so the 6s are the 3s doubled: 3 × 7 = 21, so 6 × 7 = 42. A child secure in the 3s already half-knows the 6s.

For even multipliers, 6 times the number ends in that number: 6 × 4 = 24, 6 × 8 = 48. The tens digit is always half the multiplier. It only works for even numbers — for odd ones, use (5 × n) + n instead.
By the time children reach the 6s, the freebie patterns (evens, fives, add-a-zero) are gone and the answers are bigger. The fix is derived facts: the 6s are the 3s doubled, or the 5s plus one more group.
Usually ages 8–9. In England the 6s, 7s, 9s, 11s and 12s are Year 4 tables — the year of the Multiplication Tables Check, which tests all facts up to 12 × 12.
