8 × 6: double 6 → 12, double → 24, double → 48. Because 8 = 2 × 2 × 2, three doublings do the whole job. This is usually faster than skip-counting in 8s.
8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 72, 80 — the last digits run 8, 6, 4, 2, 0 and repeat. If a child's answer breaks the countdown, they can catch the slip themselves.
The 8s are the 4s doubled: 4 × 7 = 28, so 8 × 7 = 56. Teach the 2s → 4s → 8s as one doubling family and each table takes half the effort of the last.
